Blue Lotus Bath Soaks: A Ritual in Slow Living

I’m writing this post from my hotel room in Sapa, North Vietnam. The mist is thick, rolling in over the hills, softening the outlines of the town below. When I first arrived, I felt frustrated by the endless grey, the damp air, and the way the fog obscured the landscape I had been so excited to explore. But then I reminded myself—it's not the weather that’s the problem, it’s my resistance to it. So instead of fighting it, I chose to lean in, to move with it instead of against it.

One thing I’ve been especially fortunate to have during this trip is a bathtub in my room. My mum is actually the one who reminded me how much a bath is a ritual. She has loved them for as long as I can remember, always asking for bath bombs for Christmas, always making time to soak. When I was younger, I didn’t really get it. I knew baths were nice, but they didn’t phase me either way. It wasn’t until the last few years that I’ve reconnected with the understanding that we are deeply tied to water—that bathing isn’t just a way to unwind but a way to ground.

So, with the rain outside and no rush to be anywhere, I turned to a ritual that I’ve done many times before: a Blue Lotus bath soak.

How to Make a Blue Lotus Bath Soak

Rather than adding the dried flowers straight into the bath, I first brew them in boiling water. This helps extract more of their essence, creating a concentrated infusion that blends beautifully into the bathwater.

Steps:

  • Brew a handful of Blue Lotus flowers in 2–3 cups of boiling water for about 6-10 minutes.
  • Add about 10 drops of Blue Lotus oil into the brewed tea.
  • Pour the entire mixture into a warm bath and let the water turn into a botanical ritual.

I like to dim the lights, light a candle if I have one, and play soft music. The goal is to fully immerse—not just in the water, but in the moment.

What Are the Benefits of a Blue Lotus Bath Soak?

A Blue Lotus bath is more than just a way to relax—it’s an intentional practice that supports both body and mind. Here’s what makes it special:

  • Aromatic Spa-Like Experience: Blue Lotus carries a subtle, floral scent with deep, earthy undertones, creating a truly calming atmosphere.
  • Nervous System Support: Blue Lotus has traditionally been used to promote relaxation, easing stress and tension held in the body.
  • Skin Nourishment: If you infuse your Blue Lotus into moringa oil or add a few drops of Blue Lotus oil, the bath doubles as a nourishing skin treatment, hydrating and softening the skin.
  • Deeper Connection to Self: Bathing with intention is a beautiful way to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and create space for reflection.

Whether you have a full hour to soak or just enough time to dip in before bed, this simple ritual is a way to honour stillness, to invite ease, and to soften into the present moment—wherever you are in the world.
