Making Coffee Scrub at Home.

At Grounded Cup we like to reuse and recycle as much as we can! And that includes coffee grounds!

There are so many great uses around the home and garden for used coffee grounds, but we particularly love how simple it is to add into your beauty routine.

Used coffee grounds, such as the ones you'll get in your left over in your portafilter after making your morning cuppa are great for repurposing into a DIY body scrub.

Why is coffee scrub good for your skin?

The gritty texture and acidic compounds in coffee grounds cause them to be  natural exfoliators and one of the other main benefits are the antioxidant properties that can help protect the skin from sun damage and wake up those puffy eyes.

The residual caffeine left in your coffee grounds can help activate your body’s own processes of repairing cellular damage! Sounds pretty amazing huh!

To add another natural component to our scrub, we've chosen coconut oil. This not only helps add a natural moisturiser to your scrub. But some studies have also that coconut oil might help prevent and treat rashes plus, it is shown to have  antibacterial properties, even when people use it on the skin.

So, combining these two natural wonders, you will have a beautiful soothing exfoliate!

Ingredients:

    1. 1/2 cup of fresh (used) coffee grounds.
    2. ¼ cup coconut oil (melted).
    3. ¼ cup of brown or raw sugar.

Serve: 1 cup = Approx 1 full body wash
Use: Once a week in your morning beauty routine!
Directions for use: Mix into your hands and gentled rub onto your skin in circular motions.

Secret ingredient: You know we love raw cacao, it's not only nutritious as a hot drink but when applied directly to skin is also full of amazing health benefits. Because it's full of flavonoids and antioxidants it can help protect and repair your skin from premature ageing, and with its soothing effects it will help give you that awakening glow! So if you have some at home, simply add about 1 tablespoon of 15 grams to the above mixture. Make sure you either grate finely or melt it in a table spoon of hot water before adding it in.

DIY coffee scrub is best used fresh, however if you have any left over you can store it in an air tight container, place it in your fridge and it should keep for 2-3 days.

So there you have it, a super easy DIY Coffee Scrub made from all natural ingredients.

Word of caution:

Sensitive skin: Whilst the used grounds wont be as potent as the fresh stuff, it still can be pretty strong. So if you have sensitive skin, I wouldn't recommend using it, or, ensure you test a small patch first or speak to a skin professional first.

If in doubt, always consult a healthcare professional before using any sort of home remedy treatment.
