Embracing the Energy of the Supermoon with a Heart-Opening Cacao Ritual 🌕✨

When is the next Super moon, 2025:

  • November 5, 2025: The Beaver Moon: it won’t reach its fullest point until 12:19 AEDT on November 6. But a beautiful time to watch it is just after Moonrise, from 7:30pm-ish.

What is a Supermoon?

A Supermoon occurs when a full moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, appearing brighter and larger than usual. This proximity amplifies the moon’s gravitational pull, impacting tides and, as many believe, subtly influencing human emotions and energies.

Have you ever wondered why you might find it a little harder to sleep, or your mood feels a bit more sensitive around the full moon? Just like the tides, our bodies are made mostly of water and while the science is still catching up, some researchers believe that the moon’s gravitational pull and extra light during a Supermoon can influence our circadian rhythms, sleep quality, and even emotional regulation. It’s a subtle shift, but for many of us, it’s definitely felt.

What Does a Supermoon Mean Spiritually?

Spiritually, a Supermoon is often seen as a time of heightened awareness and introspection. While all full moons bring closure to the lunar cycle, the Supermoon’s amplified energy encourages us to explore our inner worlds on a deeper level. It’s believed to illuminate hidden truths, providing clarity and helping us confront unresolved emotions. Supermoons encourage us to look at what we may have been avoiding, to nurture self-awareness, and to open up to new insights.

Where a regular full moon might encourage a gentle letting go, a Supermoon brings a sense of urgency, pushing us to release patterns or mindsets that have overstayed their welcome.

This energy can bring a fresh perspective, helping us reimagine our paths with renewed purpose and alignment.

It is such a beautiful time to sit in ceremony at home or in a circle, let it reveal to you what in your mind, body and spirit needs to be honoured? seen? or tended to?

Whether or not you feel it consciously, the energy of a Supermoon can stir something within shining a little more light on what’s been hidden, amplifying emotion, or simply inviting you to pause and reflect.

Below I’ve shared a few of my favourite rituals to lean into under a Supermoon. Whether it's sitting with cacao, burning Palo Santo, or simply journaling with intention, I hope you move slow, nurture within, and let the moonlight guide you home to yourself.

Supermoon Cacao and Blue Lotus Infusion 🌿🍫

In honour of the Supermoon, we’re sharing one of our favourite blends: Ceremonial cacao and Blue Lotus. Known for its gentle, calming properties, Blue Lotus has long been used to deepen meditation and spiritual connection. This combination with ceremonial cacao can help open the heart and calm the mind, aligning you with the reflective energy of the Supermoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of plant-based milk (such as almond, oat, or coconut milk)
  • 20-30 grams of ceremonial-grade cacao
  • 4-5 Blue Lotus flowers (dried, whole, or lightly crushed)
  • Sweetener to taste (such as honey or maple syrup, optional)

Method:

  1. Warm the plant-based milk gently in a small saucepan over low heat, ensuring it doesn’t boil.
  2. Add the cacao, stirring or whisking until fully dissolved and smooth. Use a molinillo whisk to blend, letting your intention flow into the mixture.
  3. Add the Blue Lotus flowers and allow the blend to steep for about 5 minutes. Strain if desired for a smoother drink. (Do not consumer the blue lotus petals).
  4. Sweeten to taste if needed, pour into your ceremonial cacao cup or mug, and take a quiet moment to set an intention.

Why Blue Lotus Flowr?

Blue Lotus has traditionally been used to calm the mind, enhance meditation, and open the crown chakra, supporting spiritual awareness. This gentle flower’s calming effects blend seamlessly with cacao’s heart-opening properties, inviting a state of relaxation and openness that aligns beautifully with the Supermoon’s illuminating energy. Together, they offer a deeply grounding and introspective ritual experience.

Burning Palo Santo for Your Supermoon Ritual

Incorporate the sacred essence of Palo Santo into your Supermoon ritual. This revered wood has been used for centuries by indigenous cultures in South America, specifically by the Inca and other Andean communities, as part of spiritual practices. “Palo Santo,” meaning “holy wood” in Spanish, was traditionally burned to cleanse spaces, invite positive energy, and protect against misfortune.

Its grounding, sweet aroma serves as a natural bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, creating an atmosphere where we can focus inward and reflect on our intentions.

How to Use Palo Santo in Your Supermoon Ritual:

  1. Light the Palo Santo stick, allowing it to burn for about 15 seconds before blowing out the flame. It will begin to release a soothing, earthy smoke.
  2. Hold it with intention, moving it around your space or yourself, visualising it clearing away any tension or negativity.
  3. Breathe in its grounding scent, allowing the cleansing smoke to connect you to the Supermoon’s energy and create a tranquil environment for your ritual.

By aligning with Palo Santo’s purifying energy, you can enhance your connection to the Supermoon, allowing this ancient wood to support you in releasing what no longer serves you and inviting clarity and purpose into your journey.

Honouring the Supermoon with Intention

As you savour the calming blend of Blue Lotus and cacao, let the Supermoon’s energy support you in finding clarity, renewal, and alignment. Whether you’re meditating, journaling, or simply enjoying the moon’s glow, may this ritual help you embrace your inner light and journey forward with intention.
